Hello beautiful people! I just wanted to let you all know that the indiegogo for my web series Black Girl in the ROK is live! This is a very special project that I’ve been working on for quite some time. I’ve had a blast honing my writing skills for the last few years, but I’m so excited to be back to my first love: acting.
Black Girl in the ROK follows Janae, a recent college graduate who sets her sights on making it as an English teacher in South Korea. Comedy ensues while class is in session. As we all know there is a real lack of diverse, strong, and positive representations of black women on television, on film, and in mainstream media. My hope is that this web series will show a perspective of a black womanhood this isn’t usually seen: a black woman living, working, and traveling abroad.
Recently there has been a boom of independent web series created by and for African-American people. With the success of web series like The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, RoomieLoverFriends, and The Unwritten Rules, it’s being proven that there is a desire for new and fresh African-American projects.
We all know how important it is to see positive and accurate representations of ourselves in the media. We have the power to create the kind of content that we want to see. This is why I’ve created an indiegogo campaign to help fund the series. In order to make Black Girl in the ROK a reality, I need to raise $5,000 dollars. I’ve put a lot of my own time, money, and resources into this project but I simply can’t do it alone. If you are a champion of indie tv, indie film, or indie artists, please find it in your heart to support this campaign. There are a number of different pledge levels starting at just one dollar. No amount is too big or too small. Please check out the indiegogo campaign for more details!
